(i) Applying for a Working Holiday Visa to Italy

Age Requirement
Applicants must be aged between 18 and 30.

Other Eligibility Requirements
Not be travelling with dependants
Have valid travel insurance
Be able to provide an itinerary with accommodation sorted out for arrival

Validity / Timing
Valid for entry up to 3 months from the date of grant of the visa and will allow for a stay period of 12 months from the date of first entry, i.e. no point applying for the visa more than 3 months out from your intended departure date.
Within 8 days of arrival in Italy, the Australian Working Holiday visa holder will be required to go to the Questura (Police Station) in the province where the visa holder intends to reside in order to apply for a "permesso di soggiorno" (residence permit).

Proof of Funds
Evidence via a recent original bank statement showing personal access to $A7,000 is required.

Quotas
A maximum of 1,500 visas will be issued per annum

Employment Issues
Work undertaken by Australian Working Holiday visa holders must be of a temporary and casual nature.
In Italy, the Australian Working Holiday visa holder will be required to obtain a work permit, to be issued by the Direzione Provinciale del Lavoro (Provincial Labour Office which is a branch of the Ministry of Labour in each provincial capital) competent for the area in which the work activities will be undertaken. Processing of the work permit is to be commenced after the visa holder has arrived in Italy and after obtaining the "permesso di soggiorno". The work permit will be requested by the employer and will be issued within 20 days from receipt of the application. The work permit will allow the Australian Working Holiday visa holder to work for a maximum of six (6) months and for no more than three (3) months with the same employer.

Entry & Re-entry
May leave and re-enter Italy.

General Comments
Applicants may be interviewed if necessary by representatives of the Government to determine their eligibility for the grant of a visa. The Italian Government may refuse any particular application it receives.
Visa holders will be covered by a reciprocal health care arrangement for the first six months of their stay in the other country.


Application Forms
Applications for Working Holiday visas to Italy may be lodged at the Italian Embassy in Canberra or other Italian diplomatic or consular offices by citizens of Australia who are ordinarily resident in Australia. They need to be lodged in person. The standard visa application form [located here] is the one that is used.
